Valuation bands for council tax

The valuation band that your property is placed in determines how much council tax you pay.

The valuation band for your property is on your bill, or you can check the band for your property or any property using a postcode.

We do not decide property bands, this is decided by the Valuation Office Agency and is based on the value on 1 April 1991, not their current value.

The latest bandings and charges can be found in our explanatory notes.

You may be able to appeal against your property's valuation band.  For more information, please visit GOV.UK - Council Tax appeals.

You can make an appeal without instructing an agent or other organisation who may charge you a commission or fee.
