Hypnotism permit

Any exhibition, demonstration or performance of hypnotism (as defined by the Hypnotism Act 1952) on any person requires written consent from us.

An application for consent must be made in writing and signed by the applicant or their agent.  The application must be made 28 days before the performance.  This period may be reduced if the hypnotist has performed at the same venue within the last 3 years without problem.

The hypnotist must comply with any conditions attached to the consent.  If you do not hear from us within 28 days, you can act as if consent has been given.

There is no fee for applying for consent.

More information may be available through Equity and Society for All Artists (SAA)

People who volunteer to be hypnotised must be 18 or over and they can refuse at any point to continue taking part in the performance.

If you have cause for complaint in relation to a performance of hypnotism, please raise this with the performer or the venue.  This can be in person or in writing and you are advised to keep copies of this.  If that does not work, and you are located in the UK, Citizens Advice Bureau can give advice.  From outside the UK, contact the UK European Consumer Centre.

Or, you can contact us.
