Burnham-on-Crouch Pontoon Project - update 30 July 2024
The Council is pleased to announce that work will begin on the replacement pontoon at the Town Steps in Burnham-on-Crouch week commencing 5 August.
The pontoon will be replaced after the original structure was damaged in Storm Eunice. Installation will take up to two weeks and it will be protected by fencing initially while the work is going on. The replacement pontoon will have handrails and a new non-slip decking to improve safety.
Cllr Richard Siddall, Leader of Maldon District Council said; “I am delighted that work on the installation of the pontoon will start very soon. The pontoon is a much-loved structure in the town, and I know that it has been missed.
“Please bear with us while the structure is being installed and follow us on social media for updates on progress.
“We’re working hard to ensure that the new pontoon will be in place before the start of Burnham Week when I know that the town will be especially busy with families and visitors enjoying one of the longest running regattas on the UK mainland.”
This project is funded by the UK government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
