Personal Watercraft
Every personal watercraft user who uses or crosses Council owned or managed launching areas, will first need to register the craft with each respective launch site or caravan site or holiday park.
Registration
The AA/AB identification number must be visible in bold lettering on both sides of the craft. Launch sites may require that craft display registration marks identifying the particular launch site.
Minimum insurance cover will be third party for £1 million.
Age requirements
To operate a personal watercraft, you must be over 16 years old or 13 to 15 years old under supervision of an adult present on the craft.
Persons under the age of 12 years are not allowed to operate a personal watercraft.
Speed restrictions
A speed limit byelaw exists throughout the entire River Blackwater which restricts the speed of all vessels to 8 knots (10 miles per hour) within 250 metres of the shore.
This byelaw also prevents access to the salt marsh, oyster layings and other such habitats. Fines will be imposed on those who exceed byelaw restrictions and we will prosecute offenders.
Notes
Boating under the influence of alcohol or drugs is not permitted.
