Successful Taxi Inspection Day held at the Council Offices

Published on Thursday, 1st February 2024

Maldon District Council would like to thank drivers of taxis and private hire vehicles for taking part in its recent inspection day.

The day took place on Saturday 20th January and involved taxis and private hire vehicles being inspected and checked against statutory requirements. This is part of the Licensing Team’s important work to make sure that these vehicles are safe for customers.

61 vehicles were checked, and the inspectors were impressed with their overall condition. There were some recommendations and advisory notes given but the outcome of the inspections at the Council offices was generally very positive. The majority of the vehicles needed no action and both drivers and members of the public gave positive feedback about the session.

The Council is following up with any divers that didn’t attend to ensure that they are also checked within the next month.

Councillor Richard Siddall, Leader of Maldon District Council, said; “We all want to be confident that the vehicle we are travelling in is safe. Carrying out checks on taxis and private hire vehicles helps to ensure that our residents and visitors are safe when travelling in the District.

“I would like to express my thanks to all the drivers who gave up some time to attend the session at the Council offices, and to the staff who carried out the inspections. I would also like to encourage the drivers of any vehicles not yet checked to book their inspection.”
