A new free-to-play accessible outdoor Table Tennis table has been installed in Promenade Park, Maldon, close to the Coach Park.

This new free attraction for the Park came after a message on social media suggesting that we provide an outdoor table, so our Community, Health and Well-Being Officer started to explore this further.

We were fortunate to be awarded funding through the Active Essex Places and Spaces Fund and this was matched with some funding from the Council for the groundworks to ensure the table tennis table is accessible.

Cllr Richard Siddall, Leader of Maldon District Council, said; “The addition of a free-to-play outdoor Table Tennis table in Promenade Park is a great initiative for the community. It is wonderful to see how the idea originated from a suggestion on social media and how this was progressed by our Community Health and Well-Being Officer.

“The collaboration with the Active Essex Places and Spaces Fund and the Council shows a commitment to making recreational activities accessible to everyone.

“This initiative is a great way to promote physical activity, community engagement, and well-being, and It will be exciting to see how the community embraces this new addition to Promenade Park.”

In the longer term, regular group sessions may be held in collaboration with local table tennis clubs which will bring people together for friendly matches and fostering a sense of community.
