Maldon Business Prosecuted for Breaching Community Protection Notice
Published on Tuesday, 30th September 2025
Maldon District Council has successfully prosecuted Maldon Fish and Chips Ltd, trading as Maki Grill, for multiple breaches of a Community Protection Notice.
Mr Erin, Director of the company, pleaded guilty to 13 offences at court. The breaches relate to repeated incidents of inappropriate and inconsiderate parking by staff and delivery drivers outside the business premises, despite clear conditions set out in the notice.
The Community Protection Notice, served on 14 November 2024, followed numerous complaints from residents and businesses. It required the company to:
- Not park on double yellow lines or in any permit-only parking zones.
- Not allow delivery drivers working for Maki Grill to park on double yellow lines or in permit-only zones.
- Not park or allow delivery drivers to park on single yellow lines between 8am and 6pm.
- Between December 2024 and March 2025, 13 breaches of these conditions were recorded.
The court imposed the following penalties:
- £300 fine per offence, reduced to £200 due to the guilty plea – totalling £2,600.
- Court surcharge of £1,040.
- Council costs of £900.
This brings the total amount payable to £4,540. The court has ordered that this be paid within two years. If payment is not made, enforcement action will be taken against the company.
Councillor Richard Siddall, Leader of Maldon District Council, said: “This is a great result for our community. Businesses must operate responsibly and respect the rules. When they don’t, we will take appropriate action. Our teams work hard to keep our district safe and pleasant for everyone, and this prosecution shows we mean business.”
Maldon District Council remains committed to tackling community safety concerns and will continue to take firm action where necessary to uphold standards across the district.
Notes:
- The Community Protection Notice was served following complaints from residents and 51 unpaid Penalty Charge Notices for parking offences that caused an obstruction to pedestrians, road users and public transport.
