On 10 September, the Council agreed to begin preparing a new Local Plan. We are the first local authority in Essex to be producing a Local Plan under the new 30-month plan-making system. The Plan will provide a 10-year vision for Maldon District, guiding development which is needed to support the wellbeing of the district, supporting the economy and protecting the environment. A key part of place-making is to ensure the development is supported by the timely delivery of infrastructure, and that we build the homes and communities we need, and not the just housing numbers we are required to build.
Considerable preparatory work has already been undertaken including a review of the existing evidence base, providing a strong starting point for developing a sound and locally focused plan that will support sustainable growth, infrastructure planning, devolution objectives and the emerging Greater Essex Spatial Development Strategy.
