Code of Conduct for Members

All councils are required by the Localism Act 2011 to adopt a code of conduct that sets out the rules governing the behaviour and registration of declaration of interests for their councillors when acting in their official capacity.

Maldon District Council has adopted the Local Government Association (LGA) Code of Conduct. It deals with behaviour such as:

  • bullying
  • failing to respect others
  • misuse of the Council's resources
  • failure to disclose pecuniary and non-pecuniary interests
  • unlawfully disclosing confidential information
  • misuse of the office of Councillor to improperly benefit somebody
