Local Nature Recovery Strategy

As part of our climate action work, we are working closely with Essex County Council (ECC) on the development of the Essex Local Nature Recovery Strategy (LNRS).

The LNRS is a statutory plan under the Environment Act 2021, designed to address the ecological emergency and reverse biodiversity decline. It sets out biodiversity priorities, identifies opportunities for habitat creation and enhancement, and maps areas where nature recovery efforts will be most effective, contributing to a nationwide Nature Recovery Network.

Essex County Council are delivering the Essex LNRS, which covers the Greater Essex area, including the Maldon District. The strategy is being developed in collaboration with local councils, environmental groups, landowners, and community organisations as part of the Essex Nature Partnership.

Our role is to support and participate in the Essex Local Nature Partnership and LNRS working groups. We contribute by identifying local opportunities for habitat restoration, supporting community engagement, and ensuring local biodiversity priorities align with the Essex-wide strategy. This collaborative approach strengthens nature recovery efforts across Essex.

A timeline for the development of the LNRS and be found on the Essex Local Nature Partnerships website.
