Who is responsible for paying the levy?
The client for the building control application or initial notice is responsible for paying the Building Safety Levy where it is due.
The levy must be paid to the collecting authority responsible for the location of the development. For developments within the Maldon District, this is Maldon District Council, regardless of whether building control is being provided by:
- Maldon District Council Building Control;
- a Registered Building Control Approver; or
- the Building Safety Regulator.
This means that developers using a private building control approver must still deal with Maldon District Council regarding the Building Safety Levy where the development is located within the Maldon District.
